LATEST UPDATE: 23-year-old girl commits suicide in Bayelsa

Bayelsa State Police command has commenced investigations into the circumstances surrounding the death of a 23-years-old girl in Yenagoa at the weekend. The girl, identified as Esther, was said to have committed suicide by drinking a liquid mixture suspected to be an insecticide known as sniper shortly after she had a fight with her younger sister.

It was gathered that the deceased was rescued by neighbours, who rushed her to the hospital where efforts to save her life failed as the chemical substance had done much damage.

When contacted, the deceased’s parent declined comments, saying the matter was not for public consumption.

A neighbour, who gave his name as Nengi, said the action of the deceased shocked many residents, describing her as a gentle girl.

“We were shocked when someone raised the alarm that Esther had swallowed sniper. She has been going through difficult times because of admission matters. But that does not mean she should kill herself? It is sad,” he said.
