LATEST UPDATE: We’ll play Enyimba like champions – Pillars
Kano Pillars have sounded a note of warning to Enyimba International not to expect an easy game in tomorrow’s last fixture of the season invoving both sides at the Enyimba International Stadium in Aba.
Enyimba currently second on the Glo Premier League log behind Pillars, needs victory to secure the position for a ticket to campaign in the lucrative CAF Champions League next year; but win or lose tomorrow, Pillars will be crowned champions for the third consecutive season.
However, Media Officer of the Kano side, Idris Mailikawa, told League Unlimited that his team is not in Aba for a tea party, stressing that Enyimba should not expect to get the Champions League ticket on a platter of gold.
“For the avoidance of doubt, if Enyimba do not take time, the second position and a Champions League ticket may elude them,” Mailikawa warned.
“I can assure you that Kano Pillars will play like true champions in Aba to prove why we have won the league for three consecutive seasons. It might interest you to note that we resumed training immediately after our match against Nembe City which we won 4-0.That tells you that we’re taking the game against Enyimba seriously,” he disclosed.
Interestingly, tomorrow’s clash will pitch two former Africa Coach of the Year; Kadiri Ikhana (MON) and Okey Emordi, against each other. Both veteran tacticians won the CAF Champions League with Enyimba International in 2003 and 2004 respectively.
Both coaches boast of enough quality players in their respective squads. While Ikhana has the trio of new Nigeria League goal king, Mfon Udoh, defender, Bright Esieme and midfielder Sokari fresh from the Super Eagles’ squad that played
against Ghana on Friday in Uyo, Emordi equally has the home-based Super Eagles’ trio of Goalkeeper Theophilus Afelokhia, midfielder Rabiu Ali and defender Umar Zango.
Pillars, under the tutelage of Mohammed Babaganaru, lost their last league games in the last two seasons despite emerging champions. In 2011/2012, the Kano side lost 2-1 to Sunshine Stars of Akure at the Ijebu Ode Stadium on the last day of the season while Lobi Stars beat them 2-0 last season at the Emmanuel Atongo Stadium in Katsina-Ala.
Will Emordi change the story tomorrow?.
