LATEST UPDATE: 3 fans cheat death in Uyo
No fewer than three fans yesterday cheated death in the struggle to buy the ticket to gain entrance into the magnificent Akwa-Ibom international Stadium for the Super Eagles Africa Nations Cup qualifier against visiting Bafana Bafana of South Africa.
An eye witness who narrated how the incidence occurred to Daily Sunsports said that the fans had stormed the old stadium in search of the limited number of match tickets and were struggling like thousands of others when the wall of the shops caved and fell on them.
It was very hectic for the Uyo fans who struggled to buy the match tickets hijacked by the black marketers and sold at a very exorbitant rate as they also spend hours on the long line at the entrance gate to gain entrance into the stadium.
A source had while speaking to Daily Sunsports attributed the problems of the scarce tickets on the handiwork of the fraudsters who printed many fake ones and put into circulation, adding that the state government acted promptly to ensure that only the tickets with security numbers were accepted.
Speaking on the near tragic incidence, the eye witness noted that for the prompt intervention of the state officials who quickly rushed the victims to St Luke Hospital, they would have been sent to their early grave.
“As I speak with you now, three of the victims have been admitted in a nearby hospital, St Luke’s Hospital. It was such a serious issue because the wall of the shops caved in because of the large crowd surging to buy the match tickets. The incidence happened at the old stadium,” he narrated
