LATEST UPDATE: Adejube faults NFF on Keshi’s sack
Former board member of the Nigeria Football Association, Elder Dickson Adejube, has faulted the recent celebrated sack of the Stephen Keshi-led Super Eagles’ technical crew by the newly elected executive board of the Nigeria Football Federation.
Although the Alhaji Aminu Maigari-led immediate past board of the NFF recently shocked Nigerians when it revealed that Keshi had no written contract with it as the head coach of the national team, Keshi told newsmen in Ilorin, at the weekend, that his contract with the nation’s football governing body ended after the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, hence, he couldn’t have been sacked when his contract had not been renewed.
In a telephone chat with Daily Sunsports, Adejube noted that it was inconsistent for the NFF to sack Keshi, having admitted that he did not have a valid contract with it.
“We were told that Keshi did not have a written contract with the NFF. So how do you sack somebody you did not employ,” Adejube wondered?
Although he made no bones with the removal of the embattled erstwhile Eagles’ gaffer, Adejube, however, said it would have been better to give Keshi soft-landing by simply refusing to renew or offer him a fresh contract. That, according to him, would have given some respect to Keshi in appreciation of what he was able to achieve with Super Eagles.
“I think the NFF were not fair to Keshi. They should have relief him of his duty simply by not offering him a new contract. What they have done by sacking him is to dent his record. It shows that they don’t appreciate what he was able to achieve with the Super Eagles.
“It’s only Nigeria that can treat somebody the way Keshi was treated. It’s very unfortunate” Adejube regretted.
